Between Sunset and Moonlight

An Island Listening Practice

I am a curator, writer, and cultural practitioner working with music, natural cycles, and the art of gathering.

Based in Yaeyama, Japan, my practice explores how music can help us return our attention to nature.

Through listening projects shaped by sunset, moonlight, tides, wind, and the sea, I create situations where music does not become the center, but follows the rhythms already present in a place.

Walk. Listen. Record. Converse. Gather.

Before adding something new, I try to listen—to the landscape, to natural time, to local voices, memories, histories, and cultural boundaries.

Between Sunset and Moonlight — An Island Listening Practice grows from this way of working in Yaeyama and opens it toward other island environments and relationships.

Rather than comparing places, I listen closely to each one—exploring how light, darkness, weather, sea, sound, and human presence shape our perception of time and the ways we gather.

The practice unfolds through field recordings, photography, writing, conversations, intimate listening sessions, performances, and an evolving journal in Japanese, English, and Spanish.

It is not a search for a single finished work.

It is a continuing practice of listening, relating, and learning how to be present in a place.
